Bought this GPS for my husband for Christmas last year. He had been using a borrowed "other brand" 3.5" gps and kept saying I wish it would be better. HE LOVES HIS MAGELLAN ROADMATE 1470. Easy to use out of the box and holds a charge well. Has great advance turn warning. Doesn't nag at you like some other gps's if you are on a long road trip. The 4.7" size is perfect. Fits on dash while not blocking vision. Very soothing voice. He has nicknamed it Maggie. -- Top Notch

Works about as well as any other GPS navigator I've used. Entering addresses is quick and easy (unlike the Neverlost units Hertz provides in their rentals). The large screen is also definitely a plus, although the windshield attachment could be more rigid (the face of the unit tends to droop down, requiring frequent adjustment). My other gripe is that custom routes cannot be programmed, which I believe is possible with Garmin's latest series of offerings. And yes, while I have found the navigation with this unit to be a tad lacking at times (a turn might be called a merge), the convenience of having GPS navigation more than compensates for such occasional issues. And on the upside, I have found re-routing (after the unavoidable missed/wrong turn) to be fairly quick. -- Magellan Roadmate 1470, 4.7 inch
I was greatly anticipating the receipt of my Magellan model 1470. I have had Magellan GPS products before and have always found them to be both reliable and trustworthy. I installed the new GPS and found it easy to put in the addresses and routes we wanted to use. Within three weeks of use however, my excitement had subsided due to the fact that the model 1470 had misrouted me several times. This was particularly true if there were two or more Interstate highways in the same area. The GPS also has an annoying trait of simply shutting down when you least expect it and need it's directional advice the most. Needless to say I am very disappointed in this product. -- Disappointed
At this price point, this GPS is wonderful. The interface is relatively easy to use and the display is nice and big. While driving, I especially like the zoomed in map when approacing a turn. -- The Price is Right
